Does the Google Pixel 7a have wireless charging?

The Pixel 7a has landed, and it does quite a few things better than its predecessor. While it still has the 6.1-inch OLED display as last year’s Pixel 6a, the Pixel 7a bumps the refresh rate up to 90Hz from the original 60Hz. You also have the newer Google Tensor G2 chip inside, plus a huge jump to 64MP on the main camera compared to the 12.2MP camera on the Pixel 6a.

But what about wireless charging? The Pixel 6a did not have wireless charging capabilities, so did Google learn its lesson by adding that feature to its next budget-friendly phone?

Yes, the Google Pixel 7a has wireless charging

Almost all of the best smartphones these days have wireless charging, so it was a little surprising that the Pixel 6a did not — though it was likely due to its low price. However, Google fixed this with the Pixel 7a by including wireless charging this time (as well as bumping the price up to $499 instead of $449).

However, like all wireless charging, don’t expect it to be super fast — the Google Pixel 7a caps out at 7.5W wireless charging speeds.

Iran’s President Holds Rare Meeting With Assad in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi Wednesday met Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus in a bid to boost cooperation between the two allies, state media reported.

Tehran has been a main backer of Assad’s government since an uprising turned into a full-blown war in March 2011 and has played an instrumental role in turning the tide in his favour.

Iran has sent scores of military advisers and thousands of Iran-backed fighters from around the Middle East to fight on Assad’s side. With the help of Russia and Iran, Syrian government forces have controlled large parts of the country in recent years.

In an interview with the pan-Arab television channel Al-Mayadeen, Raisi called for reconstruction efforts and for refugees who fled the country’s war to return to the country.

Raisi, who is a leading high-ranking political and economic delegation in a two-day visit to Syria, was received on arrival at Damascus International Airport Wednesday by Syrian Economy Minister Samer al-Khalil.

Beginner Michigan pilot Taylor Hash lands plane with missing wheel in emergency landing

A beginner pilot in Michigan safely landed a plane that was missing a crucial part Friday after another pilot coached her through the terrifying, caught-on-camera moment Friday.

On Taylor Hash’s third-ever solo flight, she lost the aircraft’s front nose gear tire as she cleared the runway and ascended into the air.

The missing piece was quickly noticed by another pilot who was preparing to take off, according to reports.

The veteran pilot alerted the control tower at Oakland County International Airport about the mishap, and then jumped into action to offer life-saving guidance to the freaked-out 21-year-old.

The more experienced pilot, Chris Yates, radioed Hash and quickly reassured her as he heard her voice tremble.

“Taylor, this is Chris. My daughter’s name is Taylor and I taught her to fly! We’re gonna be just fine, kiddo,” Yates said over the radio, according to WXYZ.

East Manatee neighbors oppose plans for 10,000 new homes

Two large-scale development projects working their way through the Manatee County permitting process could bring nearly 10,000 new homes to land that has traditionally been used for agricultural purposes.

[–

Neighbors are saying the projects, Taylor Ranch and East River Ranch, are too large, and too much for the rural roads to handle.

[–

On Thursday, the Manatee County Commission is set to consider approvals for Taylor Ranch with 4,500 housing units.

[–

Taylor Ranch would be the first project approved beyond the Future Development Area Boundary (FDAB) line, which the county uses to limit urban sprawl and protect agricultural land.

[–

Among those affected by the proposed Taylor Ranch are the owners of the Freedom Factory racetrack. The nearest home in Taylor Ranch, according to planners, would be built about 400 feet from the racetrack.

[–

Nearly 700 homes would be in the area closest to the racetrack, according to the site plan shared by Schroeder-Manatee Ranch.

“This is the racetrack,” Freedom Factory owner Cleetus McFarland, a YouTube star with over 3 million subscribers, said during a previous public meeting, pointing at his property on a map.

Surrey, BC to hold public meeting on potential 17.5% property tax hike – BC

A public meeting is being held on Monday to discuss Surrey’s budget and the potential 17.5 per cent property tax hike.

The proposed tax hike is a culmination of several factors, according to the city, including the possible halt of the city’s police force transition, global inflation, and other civic services.

The potential double-digit increase in property tax has people in the city worried.

Proposed double-digit property tax hike in Surrey draws ire

“The Surrey Board of Trade is very concerned about the City of Surrey’s proposed tax increase,” said Anita Huberman, Surrey Board of Trade’s CEO and president.

“We do not know and it’s not clear what businesses are going to be facing when they receive their property tax bill in July.”

Huberman said he was worried about businesses within the city, as many have already had substantial property tax increases in previous years.

“Every industry classification is different — it depends upon how much land businesses own and how much land they have,” she said.

“Some of our manufacturers have already faced a 150 per cent property tax increase in each of the past three years. It is unsustainable to do business

What land is for sale in Squamish?

The available lots range from a roadless escape to a ready-to-build home already drawn up.

Empty plots of land are few and far between in Squamish these days.

Much like the rest of the housing in town, they are also often expensive. Currently, on Real Estate Works (REW), there are 13 lots listed for sale, although several of them have structures built on them which would then require some demolition.

As such, here are five lots with no structures available for purchase.

Squamish rural plots

For about $900,000 you can buy 40 acres located just south of Baynes Island on the west side of the Squamish River. The catch is there are no roads to the land.

“Amazing 40 acres located across the Squamish River,” reads the listing. “Property has been previously logged.”

The listing goes on to say that the plot is RE (resource) zoned, meaning only one principal building would be allowed. Resource zoning from the District of Squamish says things such as agriculture, aquaculture, airport, log transfer, gravel facility, telecommunications tower and horse stable are allowed here.

Other perhaps uncommon uses that are possible for this RE-zoned lot include a child care facility, a kennel or an

TikTokers target the controversial Willow oil project

Trans-Alaska Pipeline (Alyeska pipeline) running through the landscape with Mountain range in the distance in Alaska.

The oil drilling development would be on federal land

US government officials are expected to make a decision on one of the biggest US oil projects in decades this week.

Environmental groups and some Native residents have long opposed the proposal because of its potential for climate impacts and wildlife damage.

But the opposition has grown rapidly in the last few weeks as the #stopwillow campaign has gone viral on TikTok.

ConocoPhillips, the company behind the project, said it would create thousands of jobs and revenue for locals.

The Willow oil project – if agreed – could produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil a day, making it the largest oil project in the region for decades. By comparison, Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, which is the largest oil field in North America, produces 281,800 barrels a day.

The US Bureau of Land Management estimated that the project, on Alaska’s remote North Slope, would produce up to 278 million metric tons of CO2e over its 30-year lifetime – the equivalent of adding more than 2 million cars to roads in the US.

CO2e is a unit used to express the climate impact of all greenhouse gases together as if they were

Study analyzes land ownership by location

Experts expect nearly 40% of American agricultural land will transition ownership in the next 15 years. As Kansas farmers retire and land is either sold or inherited by farming or non-farming heirs, the makeup and location of the new owners of that land has been changing over time, reports Kansas State University agricultural economist Robin Reid.

Reid worked with the Kansas Property Valuation Division of the Department of Revenue to analyze agricultural land ownership by location. The researchers used data from 2015, the last most complete year of data available. The results, reported in January, show that 84.5% of acres in the study are owned by individuals or entities living in Kansas. Of those, 54.6% live in the same county as their parcel.

The remaining 15.5% of acres were owned by individuals or entities living outside of Kansas; Texas tops the list at just over 1.2 million Kansas agricultural land acres owned by Texans. Colorado, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Missouri — states bordering Kansas — own the next-largest portions of Kansas ag land. California individuals and entities follow, with just under 450,000 acres.

Reid’s team offered a county-by-county analysis of land ownership in its report.

Cheyenne County. About 480 acres

West Kootenay landowner seeks fair land-use compensation from power companies

A West Kootenay property owner is seeking fair compensation for landowners across the province.

Pend d’Oreille resident Jim Urquhart is putting out the call to BC landowners who have electrical transmission line right-of-ways on their private property, to come together and discuss what the government and civil society have determined constitutes fair, owed land-use compensation.

“It is time that utilities in BC paid the same land-use compensation that other energy producers in BC and Alberta that place above ground structures on private property consider fair,” said Urquhart. “If landowners in BC are ever to get fair, owed land-use compensation they will have to come together.”

Urquhart says that landowners are excluded from government funded advocacy offices available to other landowners in BC and Alberta facing similar circumstances.

“The problem is the framework that the BC utilities use to decide their compensation payment is based on a land value and there is no correlation between a land value and the total impact value for which landowners are owed.”

BC Hydro spokesperson, Mary-Ann Coules, confirmed that the majority of Statutory Right-of-Way (ROW) agreements are granted in perpetuity and are registered with the BC Land Title and Survey Authority.

Bears get No. 1 overall pick in 2023 draft after Texans beat Colts

Bears land No. 1 overall pick in 2023 draft originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Bears technically lost their final game of the season when they fell to the Vikings 29-13, but in the long run, they won the day. Since the Bears lost and the Texans beat the Colts 32-31, the Bears now have the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft.

It’s unlikely the Bears use the No. 1 overall pick since they have their franchise quarterback in Justin Fields. Instead, Ryan Poles could trade that pick for a king’s ransom to a team that covets Bryce Young or CJ Stroud. It would be possible to do that and stay within the top-five, too.

Since the Texans no longer have the top choice, they could trade up one spot to ensure they get their guy at QB. The Colts will have a top-five pick and need a quarterback after the Matt Ryan experiment failed. The Seahawks could end up with a top-five pick if the Broncos fell to the Chargers on Sunday afternoon, and they could be in on a QB too, depending on how they feel about Geno Smith moving forward.

The last time a
